Worldwide demand for memory chips is raging hot.
According to the research firm iSuppli, worldwide DRAM sales were about $9.5, billion in the first quarter, up 9.7% from Q4, and 181.6% higher than the same period last year. Global sales in the quarter were higher than the entire first half in 2009; it was the third-highest quarterly revenue for DRAMs over the last 11 years.
Pricing in the quarter was up 2.9% from Q4, “defying the normal double-digit seasonal decline,” iSuppli says.
The research firm says this could be “the industry’s greatest year in history.”
Micron (MU) today is up 45 cents, or 5.3%, to $9.02.
