Dirty Tuesday: Mining Equipment, Coal, Fertilizer, Gas Stocks Rise

The market is bouncing around today on news about global . Every major sector is trading higher, but the stocks that are really popping are mostly in a handful of sectors. And those sectors happen to be a little messy — literally.

Peabody Energy (BTU) jumped 6% after Goldman Sachs wrote a favorable report on the sector and upgraded Peabody’s shares to Buy, also favoring SunCoke Energy (SXC), and Consol Energy (CNX).

Joy Global (JOY) and Caterpillar (CAT) both rose as news of a possible Chinese stimulus plan helped boost industrial stocks.

Fertilizer company CF Industries (CF) was up 3.5% after a positive note on the company’s prospects from Morgan Stanley analysts.

And Chesapeake Energy (CHK) rose about 2% (down from a7% rise earlier) after Carl Icahn disclosed a 7.6% stake in the natural gas explorer.
