Oracle (ORCL) CEO Larry Ellison yesterday once again said that the company is interested in buying chip companies as well as software companies.
“My point really was that we are interested in buying intellectual property of all kinds,” Ellison said at the company’s annual meeting, according to Dow Jones Newswires. “Most of our acquisitions and the bulk of our strategy are in creating and acquiring intellectual property, including chips.”
The company is not likely to buy many services companies, he added, specifically indicating that he is not interested in buying Accenture (ACN).
The first time Ellison mentioned that Oracle might want to buy IP-focused chip companies, it triggered a wave of speculation that drove up shares of a variety of semiconductor stocks.
ORCL is up 19 cents, or 0.7%, to $27.77.
