CNBC’s Giovanny Moreano has a nice piece today on dividend payouts by S&P 500 companies, chockablock with data points. 72% of S&P companies pay a dividend, with the average yield being 2.39%. Howard Silverblatt of S&P is quoted with the usual caveats about dividends: they ain’t going up (or in some cases, being reinstated) until companies feel “comfortable” with the direction and pace of economic recovery. See also my colleague Johanna Bennett’s remarks on Monday about dividend stocks.
