That's because Escalade's corporate cousins, the Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, made their consumer debut at the Orange County Auto Show. They're significant vehicles because they are among the last full-frame SUVs in showrooms.
Since General Motors released photos of the new Suburban and Tahoe recently, their looks outside have been widely seen. But the auto show allowed for close-up look at the inside, where there are few nice, new features.
In the Suburban, the interior in a rich, brown leather had a nice, updated look throughout. Of special interest were a suite of new USB ports and power outlets, enough for the whole family to plug in for a long trip.
The Suburban remains one of the largest vehicles on the road at almost 19 feet, and to take full advantage of it, the SUV's have fold-flat second- and third-row seats. There's also two more inches of legroom in the second row.
As for power, there's a standard 5.3-liter V-8 with all the latest fuel-saving touches that GM could throw into it -- direct injection, cylinder deactivation, continuously variable valve timing and an advanced combustion system. It comes with a six-speed transmission.
It goes on sale early next year.
