What a difference from last week, when my update title was Major Sell-Off (Except Shanghai). The seven major world markets I track were up on average 1.22% last week, with all the markets in the green except for the Shanghai Composite, which lost 1.75%. Even with its 2.19% gain, S&P 500 finished second to the Hang Seng, but it remains closest to its interim high following the Financial Crisis lows.
The tables below (click to enlarge) provide a concise overview of performance comparisons over the past four weeks for these seven major indexes. I've also included the average for each week so that we can evaluate the performance of a specific index relative to the overall mean and better understand weekly volatility. The colors for each index name help us visualize the comparative performance over time.
