Also, Nick McParland was welcomed at New York Life Retirement, and Thomas Tooley of Lincoln Financial Distributors was named to The American College’s board of trustees.
Gail Cohen Elected Chairwoman of New York Bankers Association
Gail Cohen, vice chairwoman and general trust counsel of Fiduciary Trust Co. International, was elected by her peers to chair the New York Bankers Association (NYBA) for the 2013 one-year term. Her election elevates her to the top tier of influential bankers in the U.S.
At Fiduciary Trust, Cohen is responsible for the firm’s client relationships as well as its trust and estate services in New York and across its regional offices. She joined the firm in 1994 and has more than 30 years of experience in trusts and estates. She is a member of the board of directors, as well as a member of the management and executive committees.
Brown Advisory Welcomes New Partners Porter Schutt and Bill Dugdale
Brown Advisory announced on Friday the appointment of Porter Schutt and Bill Dugdale as partners in Wilmington. Schutt will oversee the Wilmington office and leverage his expertise in global equities to help develop innovative solutions for private clients and nonprofits. Dugdale will be primarily responsible for the office’s client service and advisory functions, while also sharing his investment expertise with the firm.
Schutt joins from Marvin & Palmer Associates, where he was a partner and portfolio manager for emerging markets and domestic large-cap growth equity portfolios. Prior to that, he spent four years in Hong Kong with Goldman Sachs Asia; earlier, he had spent four years in institutional sales for Peregrine Securities, also in Hong Kong.
Dugdale comes from Friess Associates, where he most recently served as client relationship manager and portfolio specialist. During his nearly 20-year tenure at the firm, he advised a diverse range of institutional, intermediary and high-net-worth clients and was extensively involved in the investment management process, including eight years managing portfolios. AlixPartners announced Monday that Brian Major has joined as a managing director in the firm's enterprise improvement unit. He will be based in Chicago.
Major joins from McKinsey & Co., and brings with him consulting experience that includes expertise in consumer products, retail and operations. He has background in virtually all aspects of the consumer supply chain, from product development through procurement and supply management, and he has advised clients on a broad range of strategic issues including performance improvement on a global scale, turnaround and restructuring, and portfolio optimization. Earlier, he was a vice president and partner in the operations practice of A.T. Kearney.
New York Life Retirement Appoints Taft-Hartley National Director
Westwood, Mass.-based New York Life Retirement Plan Services has appointed Nick McParland as national director, Taft-Hartley market, effective immediately. He will report to Joan Driscoll, managing director of client strategy, and Patrick Murphy, managing director of sales. McParland replaces Jim Byrne, who has left the industry.
McParland joins from Intercontinental Real Estate Corp., where he spent three years as director of institutional services, responsible for raising capital from institutional investors primarily in the Taft-Hartley market. Earlier, he was a senior vice president of sales and relationship management at Macquarie Capital, and prior to that, spent a combined ten years as a managing director of institutional sales at Prudential Financial and vice president of Taft-Hartley plan sales at Cigna Retirement & Investment Services up to that business’s acquisition by Prudential in 2004. He also served as a retirement investment specialist at Putnam early in his career. Tooley Elected to The American College’s Board of Trustees
The American College recently announced that Thomas Tooley, senior vice president and head of insurance solutions distribution at Lincoln Financial Distributors, has been named as the newest member of its 44-member board of trustees. In his current position at Lincoln, he is responsible for leading the distribution initiatives associated with the firm's life insurance and executive benefits businesses.
Tooley joined Lincoln in 2010 as national sales manager, independent planner channel. In September 2011, he was also named SVP and head of insurance solutions distribution, a title he holds concurrently with his previous appointment. Earlier in his career, Tooley served as a senior executive responsible for life insurance distribution at The Hartford. He also held leadership positions with Travelers Life & Annuity, Smith Barney, Citigroup, and Aetna Life & Casualty.
