Fiscal Second Quarter Basically On Target
It sounds like there's still quite a bit of noise and uncertainty in Autodesk's core CAD/CAM end markets, but the company still delivered an in-line quarter.
Revenue fell 1% from last year, and a little more than that on a sequential basis, as an 8% drop in license revenue was offset up a 9% increase in maintenance revenue. Both Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) and Manufacturing were up annually and sequentially, while Platform/Emerging declined over both periods.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Dan Caplinger]
Halliburton has focused much of its attention on the booming U.S. market, giving it more exposure to domestic production than more globally focused rival Schlumberger (NYSE: SLB ) . With domestic drilling activity having been fairly weak lately, Halliburton's U.S. concentration has raised concerns among investors, as land-based rig counts have fallen sharply. But with efficiency gains from multi-pad drilling and multi-stage hydraulic fracturing, bulls hope that rig counts don't accurately reflect actual production activity and therefore that Halliburton's earnings will hold up better than some expect.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By John Divine]
Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT ) stock refused to lose -- as it had in the previous four trading sessions -- and added 1.2% after announcing a $1 billion share buyback plan. The shares in particular will be bought back from a French bank. With a market cap around $54 billion, the repurchase agreement will materially reduce the number of shares outstanding, spreading the company's earnings among a smaller pool of shareholders. Caterpillar seems to think its stock is pretty cheap right now. It also bought back $1 billion of its stock in June.

European large-cap pharmaceuticals like Novartis (NVS) and Bristol Meyers Squibb (BMY) count amongst some of our favorite stocks right now, as do U.S. multinationals that are growing revenue and margins in Asia Tupperware (TUP) is a shining example. Stay away from utilities and energy stocks, as they are likely to be the laggards over the next year.
